Board Repair Service info. |
Note that I am in the process of
updating my pricing schemes for repair services, based on changes to my
available tooling and abilities.
However, the base fee structure has not changed. Each board will
incur a base fee for return shipping and basic diagnostics. Any
parts / labor for the actual repair will be added on top of that base
fee. The base fee varies according to the board type.
System 3-7 CPU/Driver board pair $20
CPU or Driver board on it's own $15
Sound Board (with or without speech board) $15
Power supply $15
Displays: Not currently offering display repair services.
For a bit of info, repair prices tend to stay within the same
range. Generally, CPU boards end up in the range of $50 or so,
and driver boards around $25. However, in some situations,
it can run much higher.

At current, I am trending away from
machined pin sockets. They have proven to me as being
unreliable. Instead, I am using stamped double-wipe sockets if
needed, but many replacements are being done without sockets. Directly
soldering to the board, as with the original components, is by far the
most reliable method if done correctly.
I am also a bit more tolerant than some shops when it comes to dealing
with previous repairs of poor quality. I have the ability to
repair thru-holes and solder pads by using eyelets, but they are
labor intensive and can get pricey if there is a lot of damage to
repair.
Lastly, I have moved away from remote battery packs and lithium coin
cells on these board styles. I will still install a remote
battery pack if requested, but the preferred method is the use of a
memory capacitor. This eliminates any need for batteries in the
future, and eliminates the risk of battery corrosion.
